Pluto Opposed to Saturn

Last post February sixth? That seems to answer what the above has brought - paralysis of some kind, life shrinking to a bare minimum of going to the studio, working on the GK proofreading job, working on the everlasting play I've been getting out and putting away for years, and of course the cats, who I realized could be symbolizing the Pluto opposed to Saturn aspect, although it's difficult to think of Sweet Pea as Saturn.

He certainly symbolizes some of the structure I've built up in my life. I've been his human (as I've learned to identify myself, thanks to Uranus sextile the Ascendant bringing people the likes of whom I've never known into my life) for almost two years now, a record in my being the human in a cat's life life. He's gone from being a traumatized nine-month-old to a still fearful of everyone but me going-on-three year old, but until Pluto disguised as Patches appeared last November, he's always been Only Cat in Household. (It was my less-than-brilliant idea that fostering a cat would provide Sweet Pea, used to roaming his own six acres of New Mexico and now confined to a railroad flat for six months, with company and a playmate.)

According to the holistically inclined cat people I've now spoken to, I ought to have had someone other than me bring Patches into the apartment while Sweet Pea and I were here. That someone ought to have deposited the carrier with Patches still inside somewhere near our feet and we *should* have had a long and meaningless chat about anything but the new arrival, totally ignoring the carrier, and giving Sweet Pea a chance to have a sniff at it and get to realize what was inside. (This ideal scenario overlooks the fact that the minute the door to the hall opens and a stranger comes in, Sweet Pea vanishes under the bed for the duration of said stranger's stay. The point is I *should* not have brought Patches in myself.)

The ideal scenario continues for a week or so, I think with me having hourly chats with Sweet Pea about how he is still the alpha cat and I love him more than any other cat and he will never be deposed etc. etc., while Patches continues to be ignored and spend most of his time separated from Sweet Pea.

What actually happened was that I walked in with Patches in a carrier, put it down on the kitchen floor and let him out immediately, so the holistic approach to introducing a new cat to the household was over before it had a chance to begin. The ensuing fights have not been pretty, with me the blooded one. And if they do represent Pluto opposed to Saturn, that aspect is no longer exact and the two of them are still a long way from being the best of friends. A noble experiment, but at least I'm back to posting.

Several at Once

Right now I have Jupiter sextile Venus, exact this Saturday, 1/16, Neptune squaring the Ascendant, exact 1/24, Chiron doing the same thing but with a further away date of exactitude, Saturn sitting on Neptune squaring itself and Pluto coming to square Neptune and oppose Saturn. Pardon my obsession with this, but I have been watching the latter aspects approach in the ephemeris for quite some time, usually wanting to throw up as I do so.

It's admittedly very early days but the amazingly wondrous (to me) effect of all the above so far is that I am working, seriously working, on a play that I have been toying with on and off for twelve years. There are index cards and yellow Stickies and sheets of paper all over the apartment, starting with Act One on the kitchen counter and going over the table through the computer room, onto the bed and into the living room, ending up with the end of Act Two on the couch close to the front windows.

For the past three days I've been pacing backwards and forwards muttering to myself - No, Daphne has to say that BEFORE she finds out Doreen knew the meeting was cancelled - scribbling on new Stickies and attaching them to the appropriate (for the moment) piece of paper, shuffling index cards around, rearranging the order of the pieces of paper - THAT'S better, then it makes sense for Dobby to go into the bathroom - running to the computer every now and again to bash out a couple of lines of dialogue, going back to the kitchen whenever I get to the front window and starting all over again, and every once in while wondering if I have gone completely insane to be spending all this time by myself with two cats and three people who exist only in my head.

Mid-day yesterday I got the answer to that question when an email arrived from the artistic director of an amateur theatre company in England who'd emailed me before Christmas about the possibility of producing Soldiering On, one of the plays I wrote about 9/11. The email confirmed not only that, God Willing, SO will be produced at his theater in April of 2011, but that scurrying around mumbling to myself IS a productive use of my time, pardon my shouting.

Of course I want to know the exact dates in April that SO will be produced - I know there'll be seven performances - so I can do a chart, but have so far restrained myself from asking. How long I'll be able to hold out I'm not sure, but in the meantime, Doreen, Daphne and Dobby are calling, and I need to go to Staples to buy some different colored Stickies.

My Year At a Glance - Serious Astrologers Only

I've been watching the approach of this year for a while now with something resembling apprehension, if not dread. It's the year Pluto will oppose natal Saturn for me and square Neptune, while at the same time, because of a natal Saturn/Neptune square, Saturn will conjunct Neptune and square itself. An astrologer friend once told me she thought I'd be spared the worst of the Pluto/Saturn opposition precisely because of the Neptune placement, and while it's ridiculously early days right now, I can only say so far so good.

Of course, as Pluto moves so slowly, the opposition to Saturn continues way into 2011 when Pluto stations opposite the Lord of Karma for August, September and October, but by then Saturn will have moved off natal Neptune and be doing much more funner things like opposing the Sun, while transiting Neptune will be sextiling natal Venus, but even I have to draw a line somewhere and I'll get back to this year and cope with that first.

The thing I most hope doesn't happen is that someone close to me will die and leave me money, as transiting Pluto is currently in my eighth house. As Pluto inches forward to oppose Saturn for me, money is, to put it mildly, tight - not surprisingly, as I have an apartment in New York and a house (and car) in New Mexico and a total income of  $1,000 a month from my taken-early Social Security. I think I made about $5,000 last year from free-lance work, so I'm living on what is supposed to be my retirement fund, which I'm ever-lastingly grateful to have and which will get me through another three years or so.

If I stopped eating, wearing clothes, taking the subway, feeding the cats, buying them kitty litter, having electric light and gas to cook with, using the Internet, paying taxes and paying property taxes and insurance, the money would last much longer, but somehow that doesn't seem like too viable an option.

As much as I would dare to make a prediction, I'd say the house will have to go, astrology or not, although as always the astrology backs it up. Saturn square Saturn will bring up something that happened seven years ago or so, and we bought the house in 2002. My second Saturn Return was in 2003. Natal Pluto is in four. Natal Saturn is at the end of two. When transiting Saturn conjuncted natal Pluto in 2006, I felt forced into buying out the man I originally bought the house with rather than sell it - not a time I would ever like to repeat - so with Pluto opposing Saturn, resources, er, dwindling and structures in my life passing away (friend who lived on floor above me for 30 years moved in November) it does seem like a bit of a no-brainer.

Enough of this obsessing over what is really nothing but a waste of time -- attempting to predict the future. What will happen will happen, without being too fatalistic, and looking on the bright side, I get my bus pass in April when I'm 65 and will have health insurance as well. Can't be all bad.

The Saturn/Uranus Opposition and Me

With a natal Midheaven at 25 Capricorn and an IC at 25 Cancer, I feel incredibly fortunate that the degree of the latest of these oppositions fell where it did, handing me Saturn trine the MC and Ascendant and Uranus sextile the MC and trine the IC.

As far as I can break it down and simplify it, it's like this:

Uranus sextile MC - being accepted as an observer by the Actors Studio even though I don't have any of the qualifications.

Uranus trine IC - stumbling across tenants willing to fix up the barn at their own expense so they can bring their horses from Maine.

Saturn trine MC - being astonishingly productive about getting the house ready for new tenants. Paperwork not exactly up to date but I still have a week.

Saturn trine Ascendant - people seem very impressed to find out I'm a playwright.

Add in Jupiter to the Moon sextile the Sun and today was definitely the day to buy a new camera, as well as labeling all the shelves in the pantry so the new tenants will know where everything is. Not sure where tennis lessons fit into this, but it must be somewhere.

Saturn Conjunct Jupiter

Kind of a biggie, I suppose. The most I seem to have been able to do is begin to rewrite a preface I'm supposed to be writing for a special edition of Soldiering On, the better - i.e. more considered - of the two plays I wrote about 9/11. I've also done a lot of throwing out of stuff from the apartment and tried to make myself come to terms with having to sell the house in New Mexico. I've also realized - today, when the aspect was exact - that the Pea must have ringworm, just like me.

The patch on my upper right arm has been disappearing slowly since I started with the Lotrimin three (?) weeks ago, and truly, it never occurred to me that the Pea would get it.. He's a domestic long hair, loves to be brushed now that it's one of the highlights of his day as he can't go outside, and it was only this morning as he was lying on top of the table, waiting for grooming time, that I realized he was looking very normal and like an "ordinary" short hair. The hairs on top of his head were like any other cat's - his head was a normal sized cat head, no halo of fluffy grey hair sticking up over his ears, no fuzzy long ruff around his neck, nothing to distinguish him from any other short-haired cat.

THIS is the manifestation of Saturn conjunct Jupiter? Ringworm in my cat as well as me? Responsibility when it comes to small animals? (Jupiter in Virgo almost in six?) Whatever it is, I realized today the Pea probably has ringworm and has to go to a vet tomorrow. Was hoping I could put it off till I was on another credit card statement, but I guess not.

Chiron conjunct Moon

This is the third go-around of this once in 50 years or so aspect for me. The first conjunction, back in March '08, my beloved Fluff ran off to join the circus and for two weeks I walked around bent over clutching my belly praying/hoping/wishing he would come back. He didn't.

Second pass was in July when I was taking line dancing classes at the Senior Center in Silver City. I had dropped a rock on my left little toe and was dancing in bare feet. At least three of the women taking the class told me to beware of dancing like that, for reasons I can't remember. They were very solicitous in a way my own mother never was and if I'd been doing this blog at the time I'd have mentioned it.

Today, third and final pass, thank you Jesus thank you God, could almost pass un-noticed. I'm here in New York and the 11-month old I came to this country to babysit for in 1963 came down from Cambridge for the weekend. She'd asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I'd told her the French day-by-day appointment book I'd gotten at Rizzoli last year in January for half price. They didn't have it and we ended up at the Borders on 57th and Park, where she got me a beautiful soft leather even though it's purple 2009 date book which feels absolutely right in my hands that I'm very happy with. I let her buy me that, I let her buy me a decaf coffee in the Gotham Coffee House at Second and 60-something and then I let her buy the Sweet Pea more marbles at the toy shop on 79th and First. Is that mothering? I don't know, but I have a feeling it's as close as I'm going to get.

And if that IS it, for the third and final pass until 2059, thank you God, thank you Jesus.

Uranus opposed to Jupiter

Can I "blame" this aspect for my not having posted since December 11th? Not really, but life has been a bit frenzied since then till yesterday when it perfected (the aspect, not my life, although I'm not complaining) and I flew back to New York with the Rescue Remedied Sweet Pea from Palm Springs, where I've left the car with John till May when the tenants in Silver leave.

So, as of Saturday, January 3rd, tenants, Murray the cat and Lois the dog are in and happy, house was reasonably clean for their arrival, the Sweet Pea and I drove to Morongo Valley the next day and this post is so totally banal and uninteresting I see no point in continuing with it.

More very soon.

Uranus opposed to Jupiter

Holy Cow! I guess not having time to make an entry here since October 28th, day of the enchilada deliveries, is Uranus opposed to Jupiter.

Work picked up right after that, for a start. I have Jupiter in Virgo at the very end of the Fifth, and it turned out YB, the woman I work for and also a friend of 40 years, had the mistaken impression that I didn't want to work (!) and hadn't wanted to "bother me". (English punctuation) Once I pointed out my financial situation (9/11 settlement money all gone, massive, for me, house expenses, having to get a new heater, $2,000 on the tree trimming etc. etc, $1,000 on the old Volvo getting the brake lights to work) we got that straightened out and she began to send me work - MP3 files for me to transcribe into Word and send back. Thank God for the Internet as I can work from home in Silver, and as I never get the super-rush stuff the producers want back before they've sent it I can take breaks and go and wander around outside and water the plants or get in a few logs at a time, or at least I used to be able to, before Uranus opposed Jupiter.

Anyway, after weeks of what seemed like nothing happening, everything exploded: lots of transcribing work, work from an English astrologer I sometimes ghost write for, getting quotes on a new wall heater, getting quotes on the road washing away ($2,800 plus tax? I don't think so. Who with a Twelfth house Sun needs to be connected to the rest of the world ha ha?), driving to Tucson to pick up Randy, a friend, driving him straight back to Silver, deciding to have central heating ((! ) Pluto trine Venus, another Biggie in the Background) installed as it was only (!) $1,000 more than the not very effective wall heater, having it installed meaning three men climbing all over the attic cutting holes in the ceiling and walls for three days, the Canadian publishing house that is good enough to publish my plays asking for a blurb for the last one-act I wrote, Randy building me a broom closet in the kitchen where the old wall heater used to be, much hammering and sawing while I was trying to work, handyman coming and repairing the roof, the Sweet Pea not coming in till 10:00 pm because of all the activity and making me think he was following in the paw prints of his big brother who ran away and joined the circus round about the time of the first pass of Uranus opposing Jupiter, finding people on Craig's List Las Cruces who are willing to rent the house from January to May, 2009, with many emails flying back and forth, taking Randy back to Tucson and realizing it's three and a half hours, not three (he checked in with one minute to spare), driving three and a half hours straight back, friend from Santa Fe arriving same day one hour after I got back, both of us being invited out for lunch by a mutual friend the next day, going out for dinner with friends the night after that, November 15th, SF friend leaving early the day after and finally me leaving for New York that same day, November 16th, driving three hours to El Paso to the airport.

Might not seem like much, but to a country girl....

P.S. Third and final pass of Uranus opposed to Jupiter for me is January 8, 2009. Probably the date I leave Silver when my tenants arrive, if I dare make a prediction. You read it here first.

In the Background

While all these little day to day things are happening - getting in the wood, the mail being put in the wrong mailbox - there are all the underlying major transits going on, not to mention progressions which I haven't yet gone near.

For me, the biggie long-term aspects happening now are Pluto square Chiron (third transit just passed, never to happen again), Uranus opposed to Jupiter (just exact retrograde, exact again January 8, 2009, but who's counting?), Pluto trine Venus (exact for the third and last time November 19, 2008) and the dreaded Chiron to the Moon, exact for the last time January 11, 2009.

The first pass of Chiron to the Moon coincided with the first pass of Uranus opposed to Jupiter in March of this year. My beloved Fluff, never a particularly domesticated cat, manifested the U/J for me by running away to join the circus, while Chiron to the Moon became the gut-wrenchingly horrible weeks of putting up posters, setting a humane trap night after night, driving around looking for him, etc. etc. (Sweet Pea is the result of returning the trap to the animal shelter and making the mistake of going to the boys' room to see if Fluff was there.)

I manifested my own Jupiter/Uranus let-me-out-of-here by getting my 19-foot-long ancient Volvo stuck in between the compost and lava-rock aisles in Walmart's garden section, and then having to sit looking as nonchalant as possible while garden man went off to get a forklift to move some of the compost. Felines ten, humans one.

Second pass of Chiron to the Moon coincided with transiting north node in the eleventh, and I found myself going to a beginner's line dancing class at the senior center (!) here in Silver City, NM. Thirty women, one extraordinarily brave man. I had a tenant for two months in the summer who was born eight days after me in 1945, so we had much (by no means everything) in common and it was she, Miss Moon in Gemini interested in everything, who told me about the line dancing classes. On the day the Chiron/Moon conjunction was exact, I was dancing in bare feet, as I'd dropped a large rock on my left little toe while engaging in what is laughingly known here as gardening, and several women I had never spoken to before came up to me and expressed concern I'd damage my feet by not wearing shoes. (Uranus in Pisces is also in eleven for me now.)

With the transiting north node now moving on beyond my natal Moon, it's more and more difficult to get myself to those twice-weekly classes - I missed today but it wasn't my fault ha ha - but I'm doing the best I can, read maybe I'll go on with it, maybe I won't. Like Diana with her face on the tea towels though, I've bought the dancing shoes, so maybe I will.

The second U/J pass a few weeks ago sent a cat I've never seen before strolling across the driveway and a neighbor calling to tell me he'd found a kitten outside his back door, and I sometimes wonder if the third and final opposition will bring Fluff back. I heard so many "my cat went missing and came back after three/six/nine months" stories I can almost let myself think he'll reappear.

When it comes to Pluto trine Venus, my hands come off the keyboard and I sit here staring at the screen. I was fortunate enough to study astrology with Michael Lutin. Along with "Healing the past and living in the present creates the future" and "The slowest moving planet wins", "Read the fine print" is one of the many things he said that's stuck in my brain ever since. Unless I'm falling in love with the Sweet Pea, I think I need to move up to 2.5s.
